FIT FOR A DUCHESS: THE WALDORF ASTORIA’S SPA OPENS

Customized Treatments at Plus One Spa Treats Guests Like Royalty

NEW YORK, June 15, 2003 – The Waldorf Astoria, the renowned New York landmark hotel, today announced the opening of the property’s Plus One Spa, a 4,000-square-foot facility that combines classic elegance with Asian-inspired décor as it delivers a range of comprehensive, high-quality spa, beauty and fitness services to relax, rejuvenate and transform.

“We are very excited to have added yet another amenity to the list of services we offer our guests,” said General Manager Eric Long. “ There is no better fit for us than a partnership with Plus One, a company known for their spa development in premium hotels.”

With sweeping views from the 19th floor of the hotel, the Plus One Spa affords guests the utmost in personalized services, as well as in-room and personalized treatments created exclusively for the Waldorf.

The spa delivers comprehensive, high-quality beauty and fitness services in six spacious treatment rooms; a private VIP room; private showers and a rejuvenation lounge complete with healthful libations. In addition to the beauty treatments, the Plus One Spa provides personal fitness training, yoga classes and nutritional counseling. The Waldorf=Astoria is the first hotel to feature a Plus One branded spa.

Exclusive Services

Signature Waldorf treatments include The Duke and Duchess Suite Retreat, allowing couples the experience of side-by-side massages followed by Champagne, as well as the Waldorf Salad Gommage, a full-body exfoliation and massage treatment using ground black walnuts blended with apple extract - similar to the ingredients that make up the famous salad invented by Oscar Tschirky in 1896.

Other specialty treatments designed specifically for the hotel are The Chocolate Pansy, a gentle chocolate sugar exfoliation followed by a milk-and-honey cocoon wrap with a tasting of rich chocolate and The Double Manhattan, which features two therapists working simultaneously to give guests a botanical facial massage and peppermint foot treatment.

Men, Too!

In keeping with the increasing enjoyment and requests for spa treatments among male guests, the spa also offers a menu of services designed for men. The Dragonfly menu features The Presidential treatment, which provides a total body tune-up with a 45-minute personal training session and a 25-minute massage. Also on the menu, The Gentlemen’s Facial, a Cleansing Back Treatment, Swedish Massage and a Deep Tissue Hot Stone Massage.

Products

The Plus One Spa features the Naturopathica treatment products line. These botanical skin and bodyline products are composed of 100 percent plant-based products free of irritating synthetic ingredients, which are fortified with the vital properties of plant materials. Made with herbal extracts grown on Naturopathica’s farm the oils and lotions are designed to nourish the skin from the inside out.

Hours of operation for the Plus One Spa are Mondays through Fridays 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. All treatments are by appointment. For reservations, call 212-872-4970.
