Hampton Inn just launched a new online database of weekend events around the U.S. Called "Hampton's Year of 1,000 Weekends," it lists offbeat weekend getaways like the Gilroy Garlic Festival and the Lisle, Illinois Balloon Festival in an effort to combat summer boredom by encouraging weekend getaways.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - July 1, 2003 - Have you done anything fun this summer? According to a recent national survey conducted by Hampton Inn®, more than one-third of Americans waste "most" or "a few" of their weekends being bored. In honor of Anti-Boredom Month, Hampton Hotels invites children and adults looking to fight off summer "blahs" with an easy-to-use resource guaranteed to get them off of their couch: "Hampton's Year of 1,000 Weekends" online travel database.

Designed as an easy reference guide, http://www.hamptoninnweekends.com is clearinghouse of information is designed to connect travelers with 1,000 fun and quirky events happening across the U.S. and Canada in 2003. The site features different event categories, including music, food and more, to guide visitors to goings-on that suit their interests. Events can also be searched by region, state or city for happenings during pre-planned travel dates or to inspire a weekend getaway among the curious. Designed to be a great weekends boredom- buster, the 2003 "Hampton's Year of 1,000 Weekends" is unlike any travel planner ever produced by the hotel industry.

"Boredom is a major problem in the lives of Americans throughout our country, affecting everything from productivity to one's overall outlook on life," says Alan Caruba, founder of The Boring Institute and Anti-Boredom Month. "There are so many great activities out there that can help a person snap out of the 'same old weekend' rut - if you know where to look!"
