Ever Stole a Towel? Holiday Inn Forgives You

Wednesday August 27, 2003
Few hotel icons are as recognizable as the white terry towels with the green "Holiday Inn" embroidered on the edge. In fact, you may recognize one in your very own bathroom. So many people have "borrowed" towels from the hotel chain over the years, they've declared a Towel Amnesty.

On a poll at their web site, 68% of those surveyed admitted to taking home a towel from Holiday Inn. The hotel chain estimate one in five guests have taken home a green-striped towel over the past 51 years. Holiday Inn is now inviting guests to return the towels they "borrowed" on previous stays at any of the hotels' locations across the United States.

Towel Amnesty events are being held throughout the Labor Day weekend. You can absolve your guilt and possibly pick up a limited-edition towel as a (legal) souvenir. They'll be handing out 660,000 towels in the next week or so.

You can also have a chance to win one. Tell the story of what happened to your Holiday Inn towel, and perhaps even send in a picture of it. Holiday Inn will donate $1 to charity for every story submitted, and twenty-five stories will be selected to win a souvenir towel.

Enter at their web site between now and September 30 for your chance to win.
