Hotel Rave: Santa Maria in Trastevere
Tuesday January 25, 2005
Jane writes about the Hotel Santa Maria Trastevere, in Rome, Italy: "This is our second stay...I doubt I would stay anywhere else in Rome. The hotel is small and unexpected, tucked away in a little street just behind the Piazza Santa Maria Trastevere. The location is fantastic -- you can walk to just about everything, including lots of good restaurants, cafes and interesting sights. It's just across the river to the Piazza Navona, and just down the road from the Villa Farnesi and the Vatican..."
"The hotel itself is lovely. The service is personal and responsive, the rooms, which surround a pretty courtyard, are pleasant and comfortable. Unlike my experience in bigger hotels around the world, I have never come back after a morning of sight-seeing, to find my room undone. The included breakfast is fantastic, way better than average.
"If you want a large chain hotel experience with shops, a health spa and room service, this is not the place for you. If a tucked away corner of charm and grace in the middle of Rome is what you're looking for, look no further."
