The good news: as hotels upgrade to symbolically clean white duvet covers, they are washing the covers more often. I'm sure we're all glad to say goodbye to the grimace-inspiring bedspreads that were notorious for only being washed a few times a year.

The not-so-good-news: the sheets aren't being changed every day. To balance out the cost of washing the duvet covers, and for environmental reasons, hotel chains like Marriott, Loews and Hyatt are changing sheets on guest beds once every three or four days.

Guests who want daily sheet changes must make a special request. Or book into a Westin, Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton, St. Regis or Le Meridien; they all still provide daily sheet changes.

As long as the sheets are changed after every guest, I suppose we're still in a good place.
