London Hotel Rates on the Rise
Thursday August 17, 2006
Hotels near London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports are getting harder to come by -- and more expensive. A report issued by Deloitte indicated rates have risen 17 percent at hotels near Heathrow airport, and eight percent near Gatwick, since the thwarted terrorist attacks a week ago. Occupancy rates have also risen dramatically, going up to 92.4 percent at Heathrow (from 83.9 percent).
Deloitte is predicting hotel occupancy will return to normal levels within about six months, as they did after 9/11. In the meantime, travelers affected by flight delays and cancellations are paying a higher price.
