Sharing Your Room With Snakes

Tuesday July 15, 2008
Yikes. Lots of people travel with dogs or even cats, but there's a guy in Virginia apparently traveling with an entourage of snakes. Seventeen of them were found in a hotel room. Twelve of them were venomous; the rest were a bag lunch.

It got me to thinking about the oddest creature I've come across in a hotel room. I was just waking up in a room at a Dominican Republic beach resort when I noticed something awkwardly working its way up the curtains. Having a phobia of all things cockroach, I leaped out of bed and flipped the lights on. The uninvited guest turned out to be, of all things, a hermit crab who had wandered in from the beach. I breathed a sigh of relief and sent him on his way back home.

What's the strangest creature you've ever found in your hotel room?
