Poconos: Split Rock Resort To Open Indoor Water Park

Wednesday July 23, 2008
H2Oooohh! at Split Rock ResortSplit Rock Resort & Golf Club is set to unveil its newest attraction, a 53,000 square foot indoor water park called H2Oooohh!, in September. It does sound like fun:
The $19 million waterpark will enable visitors to extend their summers long after Labor Day has passed with features such as body slides, a family raft ride, a multi-level splash playground and a children’s activity pool. In addition, the complex will feature the FlowRider, the Pocono’s fist indoor, innovative swift-moving water wave for boogie boarding and board surfing.
But I have two reservations:
  • The Noise Factor. Although my colleague over at About Theme Parks writes often and enthusiastically about indoor water parks, I'm still burned by my one and only experience at the ultra-high volume Circus Circus Adventuredome in Las Vegas.
  • The Crowd Factor. Opening this up to the general public in addition to hotel guests, it seems, would almost guarantee long lines at every attraction during peak times, with no apparent advantage to being a hotel guest (other than proximity).
What's your experience with indoor water parks - how do they compare to the outdoor ones in terms of noise? And what do you think of the Split Rock Resort?
