Mother's Day is coming up, and I have to say, it's my personal favorite holiday. I get presents without having to buy them for anyone else (OK, except my own mom), everyone has to be extra nice to me, I get to choose how we spend the day, I don't have to change any diapers and I don't even turn a year older. What's not to love?
Of course, with my mom living several states away, I don't get to see her as much as I used to. I'm thinking this year it might be nice to get away, just the two of us. But where? Here are a few ideas for mother-daughter getaways, for Mother's Day or any time the two of you can get away.
- Spa: I love the idea of a stress-free, spa-filled pampering weekend. You can spend the day getting massaged and beautified at the spa, then catch up over a light healthy lunch while someone else cooks and cleans. I like the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Lifestyle Spa at the Hyatt Regency Bonaventure near Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
- Retreat: The clientele of Red Mountain Resort & Spa, mostly women and mostly repeat visitors, told me a lot about the unique experience it offers. Beautiful, peaceful desert surroundings, fitness seminars and classes, hiking excursions, the Sagestone Spa, and healthy-yet-delicious food in the one restaurant combine for a rest from the everyday.
- Big City: The Muse in NYC is bringing back its Sex and the City package, the perfect girls' getaway which includes a suite; a personal driver to visit Sex and the City haunts like Jimmy Choo, Magonia Bakery, and Carrie's brownstone; breakfast in bed and cocktails at NIOS. Other hotels offering Sex and the City packages include the Girls Weekend at The Dorchester in London and the Carrie On package at Affinia's five New York City hotels.
