Fishing Pier at the Cheeca Lodge and Spa in Florida Keys

Dreaming of a beach for your summer vacation in 2010? Peruse some of my favorite Florida beach resorts.

Gulf Coast

  • Sandpearl Resort: a condo-hotel with the feel of a classic luxury resort, a boat ride away from Caladesi Island (Dr. Beach's #1 best beach in America in 2008).
  • Henderson Park Inn: Secluded, New England-style, adults-only inn on the beach in Destin.

Atlantic Coast

  • Ponte Vedra Inn & Club: a Mediterranean-style golfer's paradise with a long pristine Atlantic beach near Jacksonville.
  • Romantic Inns in St. Augustine: Pick one of five romantic inns, cozy up on the balcony of a Victorian home, walk across the street to catch a horse-drawn carriage, and wander over to Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth.
  • Disney's Vero Beach: This Disney Vacation Club resort is right on the beach. It's Disney magic without the crowds. Fun family activities like water slide races, campfire sing-alongs and character breakfasts keep you as busy as you want to be.

Southernmost Florida & the Keys

  • Cheeca Lodge and Spa: Since its original opening in 1946, Cheeca Lodge was known as a luxurious fishing retreat. Since then, this waterfront resort has added to its appeal, with amenities for families, spa lovers and recreation seekers alike.
  • Naples Grande Resort and Club: This chic family resort does so many things right. This resort has plenty to do, luxurious accommodations, caters to kids yet has a sophisticated air, and has great food in every restaurant - even out by the pool. Plus: it's affordable.
