You're never too old for Halloween. And hotels across the county are making it very appealing to plan a frightfully fun getaway. I'm so inspired reading all that's on tap, I'm considering upping my costume ante from the default sheet-as-ghost getup. Looking for inspiration, too? Head here for cool hotel haunts:
- I love the sounds of the "Take the Elevator Home and R.I.P." package at the Glenn Hotel in Atlanta. Prices start from $169 per night (based on double occupancy for three nights, Oct. 29 - 31), including admission for two to the Haunted Hotel Party that plays out on three floors fittingly dubbed Hell (the lobby), Purgatory (second floor suites) and Heaven (the Skylounge rooftop bar, natch). Adding to the fun, you get in-room Bloody Mary mix and breakfast for two in Glenn's Kitchen.
- Start the celebration early, on Oct. 28, with Halloween on the Harbor at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel. During the soiree (21 and up only), the lounge will be decked out and dishing up things like Boston Strangler-themed cocktails, themed bar bites such as the Poultrygeist appetizer (love it!) and goody bags for everyone.
- One of the West Coast's best bashes is the West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval, the world's largest Halloween street festival. Make a weekend of it by booking a room at one of the area's many hotels offering Halloween specials. To name just a few, there's the Bloody Sunday package at the Chamberlain West Hollywood and Halloween Brunch (pumpkin pancakes!) at the London West Hollywood.
- Stay at Hotel Teatro in Denver for the Dracula Package. From $279 per night, you'll get two tickets to see Dracula performed by the Denver Center Theater Company (a short walk away), a welcome treat of red velvet cupcakes and continental breakfast for two served in your room with Bloody Mary's or Blood Orange Mimosas.
- The Hilton Orlando has rates from just $99 per night for the weekend, with free shuttle service on Oct. 30-31 to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios and SeaWorld's Spooktacular. Kiddie guests at the hotel get Trick or Treat bags that they can fill up at various locations within the hotel. An onsite costume contest on Halloween is also part of the lineup.
- And who could forget Las Vegas for surefire Halloween revelry? Among the myriad citywide festivities are the 1st Las Vegas Halloween Parade and the Fetish & Fantasy Ball, named one of the Top Ten Events in the World by Travel Channel, which plays out at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
