Hotel guests from The Plaza Hotel and Mondrian Soho in New York to the Hotel Beaux Arts Miami are bypassing the in-room phone and doing everything from ordering room service to making dinner reservations and placing housekeeping requests with in-room iPads that appear to be a growing luxury hotel trend. Have a look at this video link to see how the technology, called Intelity, works--and be ahead of the curve next time an iPad turns up on your hotel bedside table.
And if you're looking to keep an iPad in your possession for beyond your hotel stay (and really, who isn't?), check out this deal good for stays through May 5, 2011 at the super swank Tempo Miami: Book a three night stay from $659 per night and get a daily $50 resort credit, breakfast daily at Amuse restaurant and one Apple iPad with wifi and 3G to take home with you.

iPads will be in every hotel before you know it.
Am I the only hotel guest who prefers human interaction when ordering my food or finding out the best places to shop, eat, visit? Sorry IPads are good for some things, but I prefer the human brain…and a smile.
A good concierge can do more than link to a list of restaurants… they can figure out which restaurant will meet YOUR needs, not those of some anonymous website, Yelp, or anyone else.
It’s not just hotels that iPads are taking over a ‘Concierge’ type role. You can now buy in-store using an iPad attached to chip ‘n’ pin device. Select your product/service and swipe your card to pay for it without ever needing to interact with a sales type person. Ideal for those people who like to internet shop with a real shop experience twist.
