One of my favorite spots to wander through--and wonder at--just doubled its size. The official debut of New Fantasyland at Walt Disney World is today. My advance scouts have returned raving about beautiful Belle's Castle, home to the new Be Our Guest Restaurant (which actually serves alcohol, a first inside the Magic Kingdom walls), the special effects leading up to Enchanted Tales with Belle, and the Storybook Circus area with the new double Dumbo ride. I got a chance to preview the Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid attraction, and was thrilled to see it here in Florida after being charmed by it in Disneyland's California Adventure (although the queue at Disney World is much more elaborate). The Disney Parks blog has a few pictures of the details to whet your appetite.
Planning to see New Fantasyland yourself next year? Here are the Disney resorts imbued with more of that "magic":
- The new Art of Animation Resort surrounds you with animated characters, mermaid and otherwise.
- Disney's Polynesian Resort puts you in an Adventureland mood.
- Disney's Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower are two of my favorites; a short walk between great restaurants (California Grill and the Wave, to name two) and the Magic Kingdom's gates puts them over the top.
- In the Royal Rooms of Port Orleans Riverside, your little heirs to the throne stay in regal style.
