There's no better time to be in Germany than right now. It's Christmas Market season, and nearly every small town -- and certainly every larger one -- hosts an outdoor, frost-bitten carnival of delicious traditional foods (think sausages and cabbage, sauteed mushrooms served with garlic sauce, and gingerbread absolutely everywhere) and mug after mug of hot, steamy glühwein, that delicious mulled wine that goes straight to your head. Nuremberg is known for having one of the largest and most traditional Christmas markets, but there are literally scores if not hundreds of them between cities like Hamburg, Berlin, Munich and Cologne, alone. In a toast to the Christmas Markets and Germany's most festive season, here are a few of my favorite hotels that will put you within stumbling distance of a mug of mulled wine:
- Park Hyatt Hamburg
- Radisson Blu Gewandhaus Hotel, Dresden
- Movenpick Hamburg
- Radisson Blu Hotel, Berlin
- Fairmont Vier Jahreszeiten
- The Charles Hotel, Munich
