January 21 marked the opening of a new $44 million art hotel, The Alexander, in Indianopolis' cool CityWay, a mixed-used area in the heart of downtown with a life-friendly mix of residences, restaurants, retail shops, workout facilities and more. And while there's lots of buzz around the perks at this 209-room boutique hotel--from the free bikes available to guests to the 12 works of art (among scores more) that have been commissioned just for the hotel--a normally under the radar feature is even more noteworthy: the hotel's parking garage. The Alexander commissioned famous (and mysterious) British street artist Banksy to "vandalize" its parking garage. The artist is still in the process of gracing the garage with his cult-status art works, but two to mention include a girl in a ski mask and an interesting "Vandal" character. Needless to say, this is one hotel parking garage destined to become a destination all its own.
