Walking along the resort grounds in the evening was a highlight of our stay. From our building (Rapa Nui), it was a short walk to the Polynesian's private beach. After dark, this is a prime spot to view the Electrical Water Pageant, which glides across the Seven Seas Lagoon each evening. Hammocks and beach chairs line the waterfront as well as hug the sides of two individual pools, one designated the "quiet pool" and the other featuring a brand-new volcano water slide. At the nearby marina, rainbow-colored Hobie catamarans and zippy motorized water mice awaited hourly rentals.
Across the resort from our building, the performers in the Polynesian's Luau Cove were rehearsing for a show. The path continues along the shores of the Seven Seas Lagoon to the Polynesian's newest neighbor, the Grand Floridian Resort, where the rhythmic drum beats of the Luau give way to the simulated chirp of crickets. The Grand Floridian's Spa and the storybook-beautiful Wedding Pavilion are a short walk down this path from the Polynesian shores.
In fact, the more ambitious guests can walk all the way around the Lagoon to the Magic Kingdom, although speedy and frequent monorail transportation makes that trek seem unnecessarily cumbersome. At night, however, the bright lights of Disney's original Florida theme park cast a magical glow on the water, adding ambiance to a leisurely walk along the shore.
