Budget hotel chains are also changing their attitudes toward dogs who travel with their owners, making it easy to find a pet-friendly hotel just about anywhere you travel in the U.S. and Canada. Because hotels change their policies frequently, and because many hotel chains are individually operated by franchisees, check with the individual hotel you are considering before you book to get the details on your dog's visit.

It's not a budget hotel, but all Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts accept pets under 15 pounds.

La Quinta Inns have over 350 hotels that are all pet-friendly. They will accept cats and dogs up to 50 pounds with no extra fees or deposits.

Motel 6 has over 800 locations that accept pets under 25 pounds (ask if you have a larger pet, and they may allow it).

Red Roof Inns accept dogs up to 80 pounds, and has over 250 locations.

Travelodge has over 300 dog-friendly locations.

Days Inn has over 900 pet-friendly locations across the U.S.
