Points of Interest:

Also known as the Arts District, this area was part of the 1984 World's Fair Exposition. The area turned residential shortly after the Exposition closed, with run-down warehouses converted into pricey apartments and condos. Restaurants such as the original Emeril's soon followed.

Recent years have seen the development of museums such as The National D-Day Museum and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Don't miss the Confederate Museum, an older museum in the shadow of the new Ogden building. The Contemporary Arts Center hosts numerous parties and art showings throughout the year. Julia Street is where you'll find the Louisiana Children's Museum and a number of art galleries. Four times a year, the street is closed off for art-related parties open to the public.

During Mardi Gras, parades pass right down St. Charles Avenue, and crowds are often more manageable here than on nearby Canal Street. The streetcar also passes on St. Charles Avenue (going Uptown) and Carondelet Street (heading downtown). During the summer months, Lafayette Square hosts free concerts right after work.

Lining the Mississippi River in this area is the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and the Riverwalk Marketplace shopping center.
