Name:
Rick Smith
Hotel: Sukhothai
Location: Bangkok, Thailand
Date of Visit: September, 2002
How
Hotel Was Selected: The Sukhothai
is featured in Herbert Ypma's "Hip
Hotels - City" book.
Description:
An oasis of chic calm in the heart
of Bangkok. The building is unobtrusive,
looks like a converted school, but
the interior is awesome. Pure Thai
craftmanship allied with the most
modern hotel technology. We took a
junior suite (good off-season rates
are available on the major web bookers)
and it was a thing of beauty. The
infinity pool is serene, large and
clean, and full service from the attendants.
Great food to your lounger! The hotel
bar is as good as any chill-out bar
in Europe, with a fusion musical background
and great looking staff. The Sunday
'Jazz Brunch' is fun, but you will
need to book because it fills up at
mid-day. This place is not cheap,
by Bangkok standards, but it is well
worth the extra if you are looking
for something special and romantic.
