Question #6
Are you visiting New Orleans during Mardi Gras?
* Mardi Gras is the biggest tourist season of the year in New Orleans. Contrary to what Hollywood shows you, the parades don't pass through the French Quarter, but down St. Charles Avenue. This area of Mardi Gras, particularly at the beginning of the parades, can be very family-friendly and a lot of fun. Farther downtown, the parades wrap up later in the evening, and the crowds get a bit thicker and rougher. A few blocks away, the French Quarter (particularly Bourbon Street) hosts a wild party that begins on Friday and ends at midnight on Tuesday. Things can get pretty wild down there, particularly after dark. A few hotels have the coveted balconies that overlook the street.
