One&Only Ocean Club

A beautifully restored luxury resort from the 1930s, the One&Only Ocean Club has Versailles-inspired gardens and shared privileges with neighbor Atlantis Paradise Island. This intimate luxury resort pampers guests (many who return year after year) with personalized attention and a peaceful setting. The grounds of this historic resort are idyllic, with green lawns, white Adirondack chairs, and palm trees, all set against a backdrop of the Caribbean's famed turquoise waters.

Each of the 105 rooms and suites has an ocean view. The Villas, newly furnished in 2010 with British Colonial-style dark woods and wide-blade ceiling fans, have sliding doors leading to private patios and the green expanse of lawn leading to the shoreline and a small rocky cliff (beach access is via a path next to the restaurant). Sumptuous marble bathrooms have oval tubs and separate showers. Closets are generously proportioned, as is the flat-screen TV.

Need some glamour? One three-bedroom villa I toured was the setting for part of Casino Royale (with James Bond) was filmed. It comes ready for a getaway befitting a suave international spa with its own infinity-edge pool plus dual hot tubs that seem to melt away into the sea. A gorgeously landscaped intimate backyard has a jacuzzi, patio table, and grill. Inside is a full kitchen, two master bedrooms (both ocean view) with indoor-outdoor showers. Similar villas are equally bright and airy with high ceilings; one has four bedrooms.

Swimming pools include one built for families with a toddler-friendly zero-entry side and a quiet pool with a bar and grill. A small fitness center is very well-equipped with high-tech workout gear, outdoor free weights and daily complimentary Yoga classes. Six tennis courts are available (racquets are provided), and guests can schedule sessions with an on-site tennis pro. Bicycles available throughout the resort.

The One&Only Spa is a standout with Bali-inspired private villas each with an outdoor bathtub, shaded bed-sized lounger and dual massage tables.

The KidsOnly program, for ages 4-12, is well-equipped with an outdoor playground, ping pong, video games, and an arts and crafts room. Kids learn from the chefs, take marine tours at Atlantis and learn golf and tennis.

A small beach area, accessed just outside chef Jean-George Vongerichten's must-do Dune restaurant, offers shaded chairs. In the al fresco Courtyard Terrace, a more formal dining experience can be found in an enchanting courtyard.
