The Bottom Line:
The Claremont Resort is a luxury hotel and spa on a hill in Berkeley overlooking the San Francisco Bay.
What's Special About the Claremont Resort:
This grand resort hotel, built in 1915, is nestled in a hillside residential area of Berkeley, a town filled with artists and students just across the Bay from San Francisco. An abundance of trees surrounding the resort give it a secluded feel, while guest rooms and restaurants overlook the Bay. A short (10-15 minute) drive from San Francisco makes this a good choice for business travelers wanting to get away from stress at the end of the day, or a girls' getaway spa weekend.
Insider Tips:
  • Scenes from the 1990s movie "Mrs. Doubtfire," with Robin Williams, Sally Field and Pierce Brosnan, were filmed at the Claremont's outdoor pool.
Guest Rooms and Rates:
Guest rooms and suites from $84. Superior Bayview rooms start at $360. Suites from $460. Parking is $19 per day for self-park, with in/out privileges. An additional $12 resort fee per day covers local and toll-free telephone calls, in-room coffee, and access to the fitness center, including all scheduled exercise classes.

Rates are $10 per hour for the first child, $6 per hour per additional child.
Location of the Claremont Resort:

In Berkeley, across the Bay from San Francisco, next to Oakland. Fly into Oakland, San Francisco or San Jose airports (San Jose is about a 20 minute drive without traffic).

Guest Reviews of Claremont Resort:
"On my visits to the San Francisco area, I've enjoyed breathtaking views of the Bay in a number of ways: holding on to a cable car as it rumbles down Hyde Street, strolling past windsurfers at Chrissy Field, biking across the Golden Gate Bridge. I recently added another: soaking in a whirlpool at the Spa in Claremont Resort on a hillside in Berkeley." Read my full review of the Claremont Resort. Have you stayed in the Claremont Resort?
