What's Special About Viva Wyndham Tangerine:

This all-inclusive resort is located on the "amber coast" of the Dominican, a known hot spot for windsurfing, sailing and kite boarding. It's also within walking distance of Cabarete, a euro-Caribbean mix of chic beachside bistros and funky surfer bars.

Guest Rooms at Viva Wyndham Tangerine:

  • 221 guest rooms
  • Standard and superior rooms, junior suites and suites. The standard rooms have a queen-sized bed; superior rooms have two queen- or one king-sized bed with garden or ocean view, balcony or terrace in most; the junior suites feature one king-sized bed with garden view and balcony or terrace, plus a separate living area; suites feature one king-sized bed and a sofa bed.
  • Each room has cable TV, a/c, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, telephone and in-room safe
  • Room we liked: 3212 (Ocean Front Suite)
  • Nightly rates from about $85 per person per night, all-inclusive
  • Compare rates on Kayak

Dining at Viva Wyndham Tangerine:

Restaurants include:
  • La Bahia; the buffet serves three meals a day. I especially went for the lavish breakfasts (island fruits, cereals, omelets, local fish) and lunch (pasta, salads, meats).
  • Viva Mexico, a poolside restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere, has a variety of choices on its ‘south of the border’ menu
  • La Vela, lit by candles, overlooks the ocean. The Italian menu has a diverse selection of a la carte items
  • There is also an outside bar where you can get order up anything from coconut rum to cappuccinos, plus hamburgers, hot dogs and wood oven pizza

Activities and Amenities at Viva Wyndham Tangerine:

  • The all-inclusive program includes unlimited drinks, cocktails and wine, chaise lounges and beach towels, Viva Wyndham Kid’s program for 4 to 12 years old, live nighttime entertainment, 24-hour internet stations and a tennis court lit for night play.
  • The on-site Kelive Spa offers variety of treatments including the Sea Algae Treatment Wrap, Dead Sea Mud and Coconut Oil Massage. In addition to the spa there is a beauty salon.
  • The modern gym has a sauna and steam room and enough modern equipment to give you a good two-hour workout (according to my husband)

Good to Know About Viva Wyndham Tangerine:

  • Make your dinner reservations for Viva Mexico and La Vela when you arrive
  • The client base is mostly European and Canadian with about 10 percent American

Going Out in Cabarete:

It’s a treat to have the ability to go off site for dinner. Several nights we took the 4-minute cab ride to Cabarete for dinner. And if you want to pick up some goodies, Havaianas (name brand flip-flops), rum, Dominican coffee and local art are a great deal. There’s a row of restaurants with couches and chairs right on the beach with menus posted outside so you can find what you want. My recommendations? Casa Nova for everything from pasta to curries, La Casita for bistro style French Food, Blu for comfy chaises and atmosphere.
