From Tom: I was a guest for the grand re-opening of Club Med Cancun Yucatan in February.

As you are aware, most of the hotels and resorts in Cancun were severely damaged by Hurricane Wilma. Club Med pumped more than $20 million in renovations in to the village and it has been fully refurbished.

Documentation

If you are a U.S. or Canadian born citizen, you will need a passport to gain entry in to Mexico. Original birth certificates will no longer be accepted as legal identification.

Cancun Airport

Clearing Customs and Immigrations is a breeze but once you get outside of the main terminal it can be a bit overwhelming by the number of "meet and greet" representatives waiting to whisk you off to your hotel. Make sure you know where you will be picked up and by whom. On another note, arrive at the airport no later than 2.5 hours before your departure.

Transfer

My transfer time from the airport to the village took approximately 15 minutes and is the first stop on the hotel zone.

The Village

This was my first trip to a Club Med property and I enjoyed the professional yet laid-back atmosphere of this all-inclusive village. Although some of the GO's (Gracious Organizers) were a bit "green," they were attentive and courteous.

My guestroom was spacious, clean and comfortable and had plenty of amenities. The Jade Villa is a luxury concierge building that has room service, ocean view suites and upgraded amenities packages.

The food was both pleasing to the eye as well as the palate and social beverages were top-shelf. There are plenty of water activities...snorkeling, wave runners, windsurfing and wake boarding just to name a few. Two of the more popular land activities are the flying trapeze and tennis.

Final Thoughts

Club Med Cancun Yucatan is situated on the most prime piece of real estate in the hotel zone. It is an exclusive setting that is both tranquil and secluded. Its location and natural amenities have no rival.

No longer an adult-only resort, Club Med made the right decision by targeting families and this village raises the bar in the evolution of Club Med's upscale and family vacations. This village also has the potential to attract group business to include team-building and small incentive programs.

Whether you are planning a family vacation, group or incentive program, Club Med Cancun Yucatan is worthy of your consideration.
