Casino gambling is rated at fair (for winning in the slots and video poker). Waitresses for drinks do not circulate around too often (especially the penny slot machines). Waiting for a drink could be a long time.
Drinks at the bar are complimentary if playing video poker machines however you cannot get a drink made with a mix (strawberry daiquiri etc.) unless you pay for it. I asked why this was the only hotel on the strip that does not comp a drink while playing and the bartenders answer was "the mixes are too expensive." I was not asking for alcohol -- I asked for a virgin strawberry daiquiri and the bartender said "no".
I thought it may be only that bartender but it was with all the bartenders. I couldn't understand why I could not get a glass of "slush" without alcohol without paying $8.50 for it. It didn't make sense to me but that was how it was.
I didn't have a problem with any other hotels on the strip. Some of them required that you put $10 in the machine to comp a drink.
IMHO for gambling -- go to the Palms hotel. The deuce bus runs east and west of the strip. The Palms is across from the Rio but it is not within walking distance and you have to cross a highway. Take the deuce from the corner of Caesars palace.
The Monte Carlo is part of the MGM hotels and I would not stay at any one of them again. Harrah's hotels are better or the independently owned hotels. Have a great stay! :):)
