From Diane: My husband and I took a road trip the week end after 9/11. We had already planned the trip, so we decided to go and not let terrorists ruin our plans.
One of the stops was at the Myrtles. I had seen about the Myrtles on the television and asked my husband if we could go there. He thought it was funny and so we called and made reservations.

When we arrived, it looked nice and peaceful. (It was early in the day!) We registered in the office and then decided to take a walk around the grounds. It was beautiful and yet very creepy with the moss hanging off all the trees! There were a lot of statues that also gave me the creeps.

We took pictures during our walk, and the one of the small pond which was all green with algae looked like Dr Suess' nightmare! In the picture it looks like something with a big mouth! (I have the pictures!) We took many many pictures!

We ate dinner at the restaurant across from the mansion, on the grounds! The drinks (Bloody Marys with okra) were delicious and the food was delicious also!

Of course the bartender had her little ghost stories to tell us, I guess to really get us prepared to stay in the mansion! We didn't know until we arrived that we would be the only ones staying in the mansion that night!

After dinner, we walked outside and sat at one of the tables and watched as EVERYONE from the mansion and restaurant left for the night! By then it was pretty late and dark! (And deserted!) So, we are now the only ones in the yard and the only ones going to stay in the mansion!

Let me tell you, I love to be scared and I was very uneasy! My husband wanted to take a picture of me sitting in a rocker on the porch and I was not very happy about it, but I went up and let him take the picture, as I was expecting the other rockers to start rocking as I had heard they do!

Well, we went inside and upstairs to our room. It was a little before midnight and Tony (my husband) wanted US to go walk around inside and take pictures. I said "No WAY! I'll wait right here on this chair by the bedroom door while you go and take pictures!" He went and I could see flashes from downstairs! Within a few minutes he came back up and said he was done taking pictures.

We went to bed but I made him bring only a bag inside so if we needed to leave quickly we could! He fell asleep as usual within five minutes and I stayed up all night! Just waiting for something to appear or make sounds!

The only sounds I heard was Tony snoring until around 2:00 AM. I heard something that sounded like a ball being dropped and bounced a few times. My heart jumped, and I waited...and waited...and waited!

Nothing more happened, and before we knew it, it was 6:30, and I jumped up and said, "OK! Let's go!"

Although nothing more than the sound happened, I really enjoyed it! I was scared the whole time! I would love to go back, and this time also bring my daughter and her husband! I think she and I could have fun being scared together as the men slept!

Oh! One thing, out of all the pictures Tony took, one of them was of the large mirror as you first enter. There seem to be two figures in the mirror. One for sure is a lady with a hat on and the other we can't figure out! The picture was on some website my daughter likes to go to.

People there had comments, both good and bad! Even if it's a hoax and the people who work there put it behind the mirror, I don't care, I had a hair raising good time there!!
