From RSM: When I checked in on a Friday afternoon, I asked whether I could chash a travelers' check. the answer was "no," and no information was volunteered about where in town I might be able to still get Euros on a late Friday afternoon. Although there was plenty of staff at the reception desk, except for vague directions to an American Express office (which later turned out to be not an office but a cash machine), no one offered to call for business hours or provide more specific directions.
Arriving at the room I was amazed at the shabby state of the corridors leading to the room (torn and worn carpet with stains, scuffed up walls) and the worn appearance of the room (door frames scuffed) and the cheap looking furnishing (this is supposed to be a 5 star hotel). In the bathroom, there were only two towels, one tiny bar of soap -- not the amenities one expects of a hotel that charges hundreds of Euros a night. (Of course) there was no turn-down service.
The next day, I left the room at 10 am leaving out a sign requesting that the room be made up. Returning at 4:30 pm that afternoon, the room still had not been made up. When I called housekeeping, I was connected to the hotel operator who informed me that no one in housekeeping could take my call at the moment. I did manage to succeed in getting someone from housekeeping to clean the room right away. I paid for the wireless service in the room and while waiting in the lobby for them to clean my room I wanted to use wireless in the lobby. To do so, I would have had to pay yet again (27 Euro)!
Overall, I found my experience with this Kempinksi Hotel unpleasant and, given the cost of the room and the five star rating, completely unacceptable.
