Las Vegas -- It takes 20 minutes to get to the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort from the Las Vegas airport, but I can assure you the ride is worth it. For those wanting something different than the usual Las Vegas vacation stay on the Strip, the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort offers incredible amenities, nearby golf, world-class service, and of course, gaming.

Situated in the golf mecca suburb of Summerlin, the 541-room resort impresses from the moment you drive up on it. Its two towers accentuating its Mediterranean style architecture, along with its lavish landscaping, immediately makes the statement that this is a spectacular resort.

Walking the grounds only reinforces the resort image; you are reminded you are in a resort, not just a hotel or casino. You stroll down walkways past fish ponds until you finally come upon the massive 11,000 square foot grass edged pool with a cascading waterfall. For those who take their swimming seriously, there are also four 25-yard swimming lanes, and tucked amongst the trees, guests enjoy the privacy in their own cabanas. The pool holds 391,000 gallons of water –- more than enough to keep you cool in the Nevada heat. There are also two secluded whirlpools available 24 hours a day.

All of this is available while still being only 15 minutes away from the Las Vegas Strip, when you have the urge to take in a big name show or a concert. When you are going to take in that show or event, a complimentary shuttle is available to take you to the Strip.

Room rates run from $179-$299 for a standard room, depending on the time of year. There are also golf and spa package promotions available from Marriott's website.

Golf

The front lobby sometimes could pass as a golf pro shop because you see so many guests walking through with golf clubs. The JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort has a special relationship the TPC at the Canyons, a PGA tour facility and home of the Michelin Championship of Las Vegas. There are seven other first rate golf courses nearby and the resort's "Executive Golf Desk" is happy to make tee times for guests. Yes, the resort has a department devoted entirely to catering to its guests who are staying at the resort for golf purposes! The courses nearby include Angel Park Golf Club, Badlands Golf Club, Bear's Best Las Vegas and the Tournament Players Club at the Canyons.

Casino

The 50,000 square foot Rampart Casino fulfills the unofficial Las Vegas requirement that each resort have a casino. A separate entrance for the casino makes this resort very family friendly and different than many of the Strip casinos which basically force you to walk through a casino to reach your room.

Spa

A 40,000 square foot spa with 36 treatment rooms guarantees those that indulge themselves will leave rejuvenated. At Aquae Sulis Spa, a full range of spa services are available including massages, facials, aromatherapy, body wraps and loofah scrubs. The spa even has its own outdoor hydrotherapy pool, where treatments are also administered.
