• My room, furnished in an Art Deco style, was on the small side with a window and TV on the same scale. A shower had both rainforest and European-style showerheads; a soaking tub was separate.
• Guest rooms have a masculine edge with a black, gray and green color scheme, smooth lines and shiny surfaces. Basic rooms have a tub/shower combo.
• All guest rooms have the fabulously comfortable Sofitel MyBed, art deco furnishings and Hermes amenities.

• I loved the express lunch at Brasserie Roux, which has a separate entrance at 8 Pall Mall. This was high-style fast food with fois gras, scallops, guinea fowl and a lemon tart served all at once like a French bento box. A breakfast buffet is also served here.
• Following a rainy afternoon spent exploring the historic sights around the hotel, I sought refuge in The Rose Lounge, a pink-and-white affair off the lobby where the strains of a harpist accompany high tea service.
• In the more masculine St. James Bar, also off the lobby, West End theater goers often relax with a glass of champagne.

• Meeting space accommodates up to 180 guests and includes boardrooms and banquet facilities.
• An adjacent spa is planned.

• Black and white photos from the building's past life as a bank are worth seekihg out throughout public spaces and meeting rooms.
