What's Special About Fire Water Lodge:
Formerly a 1930s motor court, the Fire Water Lodge was transformed into a quirky and charming "spa resort" with rooms and suites surrounding a desert garden courtyard. Pictures of Fire Water Lodge
Guest Rooms at Fire Water Lodge:
Five guest rooms. I stayed in the largest one, the Palms Room (from $95). I couldn't believe how quickly and quietly the large tiled hot spring bath filled with mineral water at a toasty 114 degrees (F). The room also had a King-sized bed, a bookshelf stocked with paperbacks, a TV armoire and a small table and chairs. Next door was the well-photographed Waterfall Room (from $80), which as you might expect had a waterfall-fed tub (great for sore shoulders). Not all rooms have their own soaking tubs, but guests can use the indoor and outdoor tubs in the lodge. Nightly rates from about $65.
Dining at Fire Water Lodge:
  • At the entrance to the lodge is the Happy Beli Deli, where very affordable homemade hummus, soups and sandwiches made your way are served in the tiny dining room or in the adjacent courtyard.
  • Nearby (most within walking distance) are several small neighborhood joints including the Little Sprout Market & Juice Bar.
  • For lunch and dinner, the more upscale Café BellaLuca has soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza, seafood and pasta dishes.
Amenities at Fire Water Lodge:
  • The courtyard is the perfect place to relax during the day with a book, or gaze at the stars.
  • Indoor hot springs tubs (and one outdoor) are available for guests.
  • Many local healing arts practitioners offer spa services at or near the lodge. You can book foot reflexology, massage or even a Tarot card reading.
Good to Know about Fire Water Lodge:
  • Bathrooms are only equipped with a bar of soap and towels. Pack your own shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, etc.
  • My guest room, though large, was very dark. Table lamps, covered in leather shades, did not do much to illuminate the room, and windows were small and shaded.
  • Keep your eye out for the very friendly and fluffy but shy resident calico cat, Grizzles.
  • Much of the rustic wood furniture in the guest rooms was handcrafted by the owner.
