Soniat House

By , About.com Guide

The Bottom Line:
Luxurious, unique hotel without the uniformity (and many of the amenities) of the larger high-end hotels.
What's Special About the Soniat House:
This quietly luxurious inn is popular with visiting celebrities such as Robert Duvall. Despite the higher price, the hotel does not have amenities such as a swimming pool, fitness center, restaurant or even a bar. Complimentary breakfast of buttermilk biscuits, Louisiana jam and fresh-squeezed orange juice is served on silver trays either in guest rooms or on the lovely courtyard.
Guest Rooms and Rates:
33 guest rooms and suites are opulently furnished with antiques from all over Western Europe, from $175.

Insider Tips:
  • The sitting room is kept well-stocked with an honor bar and wine cellar, and guests are welcomed to play bartender.
  • A private car service from the airport is available.
Location of the Soniat House:
On a residential stretch of the French Quarter that is nonetheless very convenient to the shops and restaurants
