Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress: Lobby, Swimming Pool and Spa
After you pass through the resort's gated guardhouse and proceed past the VIP helicopter-landing pad, you see the 18-story tall tiered building housing 750 rooms. You enter the lobby that features glass elevators that stretch all the way to the 18th floor, friendly macaws sitting on their perches, and a "stream" running through the middle of the lobby. As you explore the lavishly landscaped grounds, you will have an opportunity to view the Hyatt Grand Cypress Resort's $1 million art collection and a chance to visit its five restaurants and four lounges that offer everything from a quick sandwich to fine dining.
As you make your way past the lobby toward the pool, you see the next area where the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort, which encompasses 1,500 acres, made its bid to stand out from the rest of the resorts in the Orlando area: the 800,000 gallon swimming pool that covers nearly half an acre and includes 12 waterfalls and two slides. I can attest that children's eyes light up at the sight of the waterfalls and the 50-yard long "cave" that you swim in to go from one side of the pool to the other. A 90-foot-long pedestrian rope bridge that goes over a portion of the pool and two water slides (a long slide that winds through the rocklike setting and a shorter one for younger children) will delight youngsters for hours.
The Grand Cypress Salon is a full service salon featuring styling, facials, massages, manicures and pedicures. The Health Club offers free weights, dumbbells, exercise cycles, stair climbers and free daily aerobic sessions. For an additional fee, the Resort's personal trainer can work with you on any your "problem areas."
Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress: Outdoor Recreation
For the adults, there are 45 holes of Jack Nicholas designed golf, courses that rate as some of the best in Florida. To sharpen your game, there is another 9-hole pitch and putt golf course that is free and available without having to schedule a tee time. Finally, for golf fanatics to hone their skills, there is unlimited use of the Grand Cypress Golf Club driving range.
Lighted tennis courts, basketball courts and an equestrian center round out opportunities for fun. The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort is well known for its equestrian center. For an additional charge, the equestrian center features western style trail rides through the Florida palmetto brush and oak trees and an English-style riding academy. Don't worry if you've never saddled up before, there are programs for beginners as well as those with years of riding experience.
The Resort is built on 21 acre Lake Windsong and its white sand beaches. Available at no cost to guests is unlimited use of canoes, small sailboats, pedal boats and aqua cycles. There are also adult and children's bicycles available for use, free of charge, as well. Whether you are a runner or just want to explore the sights, there are 9.2 miles of nature/jogging/bike trails that meander around the lake and the entire complex.
Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress: Family-Friendly Features
The resort's designers must have embraced the philosophy the active children enjoying activities equals happy moms and dads. I realize that many resorts have children's day care type facilities, but when your six your old is asking to go to Camp Hyatt as soon as she wakes up because of the fun she had the day before, something is different. Besides campers getting "room service," (their meals delivered to the Camp) there are all kinds of activities to keep them busy whether it is for two hours or for an entire day: video games, arts and crafts, videos, and counselors that basically cater to the group's desires. One minute they are doing arts and crafts, the next they are swimming in the pool or going on bike rides. The facility was immaculate, and the staff made the difference. They were fantastic with kids! The numbers of children in Camp Hyatt ranged the weekend I visited from as low as one child, to as high as five, a very manageable group.
Besides Camp Hyatt, numerous other activities for children include diving into the pool to retrieve tokens for the arcade and a weekly G-rated "Dive-In Movie" shown poolside.
