The Bottom Line:
One of the largest full-service convention hotels in central Florida has ample meeting space, a championship golf course and 230 acres on the headwaters of the Florida Everglades. Take a photo tour of Rosen Shingle Creek.
What's Special About Rosen Shingle Creek:
This 1.7 million square foot destination convention resort is located on 230 acres of the cypress-lined headwaters of the Florida Everglades, the resort is designed in the style of 1900s Spanish Revival architecture. Rosen Shingle Creek's challenging golf course was ranked "Top 40 Best New Courses in the U.S." by Golfweek Magazine. When you visit, note the artwork throughout the public spaces and guest rooms; there are many examples of impressive nature photography by Rosen VP Garritt Toohey.
Guest Rooms and Rates:
1,500 guest rooms and suites feature very comfortable Creek Sleeper beds; 32" flat-screen televisions; high-speed Internet access ($4.95 per hour or $9.95 per day); a laptop safe (although my laptop wouldn't fit in it); a mini-fridge and some of my favorite-smelling shampoos and soaps (cedar and citrus scented). 950 Double Queens, 411 Kings, 69 Executive Suites, 37 Grande Suites, 30 Hospitality Suites and three Presidential Suites; rates start at about $169.

Restaurants at Rosen Shingle Creek:
Cala Bella is a fine dining Italian bistro with the seating option of a bar at the show kitchen. The casual and airy Cafe Osceola is open three meals a day and serves buffet and a la carte. Other options include A Land Remembered Steakhouse, the 24-hour 18 Monroe Street Deli, Cat-Tails Pool Bar/Grille, Creek Ice Creamery and Smooth Java for your Starbucks fix. Pastry chef David Ramirez is a wizard of chocolate and sugar, using both culinary and engineering skills to create rare feats of dessert.
Insiders Tips:
  • Complimentary transportation to the airport and Universal Orlando theme parks.
  • The in-house BAGS program allows on-site airline check-in (including luggage service) for several airlines; check with the resort for details.
  • The steakhouse at the clubhouse is named "A Land Remembered" after the novel by Patrick D. Smith. Shingle Creek was so named because settlers in the 1800s logged cypress trees down the creek so they could be used to make shingles for the roofs of houses.
Recreation at Rosen Shingle Creek:
The golf course, designed by David Harmon, is the focus here, and guests can book a lesson at the on-site Brad Brewer Golf Academy. You may need it; the 18-hole, par 72 course was ranked one of the toughest courses you can play by the Orlando Business Journal. Other recreation options include four swimming pools, a full-service, 13,000 sq. ft. spa, hiking along Shingle Creek, tennis and a fitness center.
Meeting Space at Rosen Shingle Creek:
The resort is just down the road from the Orange County Convention Center. The 445,000 sq. ft. meeting and convention space on site at Rosen Shingle Creek, however, is quite impressive and includes a 95,000 sq. ft., column-free ballroom. The resort is ideal for combining meetings with golf.
