Best 10 Orlando Hotels

By , About.com Guide

In Orlando, the hotels know why you're coming here -- to have fun. Even the Orlando hotels that are focused on business have a fun side, in case you're bringing your family (or want to relax in between meetings). Some Orlando hotels have a winning combination of location, price, amenities and service. Below are my personal picks for the best Orlando hotels.

Not only is there a 40,000-square-foot spa at this ultra luxe resort, there's also an 18-hole Greg Norman-designed championship golf course.

Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress

The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is itself a world-class destination, not just a place to spend the night while touring the theme parks throughout Orlando. The hotel's 800,000 gallon swimming pool covers nearly half an acre and includes 12 waterfalls and two slides.

Disney's Bay Lake Tower

If you want the Orlando hotels closest to the main attraction, either Disney's Bay Lake Tower and the adjacent Disney's Contemporary Resort should be your pick. One- to three-bedroom suites and studio-style guest rooms are in the brand-new Bay Lake Tower, connected to the Contemporary by a sky bridge. This is as close as you can stay to the Magic Kingdom fireworks show. And you can skip the crowds at the monorail and buses; a footpath connects you to the Magic Kingdom.

Orlando hotels went upscale when this lavish, much-anticipated resort opened at Disney World. Orlando's hotel is the first newly built Waldorf Astoria since the historic original was built in New York City.

The watchwords here are sensible luxury and it shows from the casually elegant lobby to diverse recreation options just outside one of the first true destination resorts among Orlando hotels.

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort

Disney's Grand Floridian ResortWALT DISNEY COMPANY

The grand damme of Orlando hotels (at least, it looks the part) is also flagship Disney World resort, Disney's Grand Floridian. The Grand Floridian surrounds you with stately, turn-of-the-century charm, and is located across the lake from the Magic Kingdom, on the monorail line. Disney's Grand Floridian has a full-service spa and the only Disney restaurant with a dress code, Victoria and Albert's.

Some Orlando hotels balance business and pleasure very well. The world's largest Marriott has 2,000 rooms and an abundance of amenities, including six swimming pools and a 106-foot waterslide.

Disney's Polynesian Resort

One of my favorite Orlando hotels, Disney's Polynesian Resort holds a charm for both first-time visitors and those nostalgic for the classic Disney experience. One of the original three hotels in Disney World, Disney's Polynesian Resort can make you forget how much things have changed here since the hotel opened in 1971. With lush tropical landscaping inside and out, white sandy beaches and a location you can't beat, Disney's Polynesian Resort is a good bet for a family getaway.

Gaylord Palms Resort and Spa

Even in Orlando, hotels don't come much bigger than this. Gaylord Palms Resort and Spa, from the same parent company that brought you Nashville's incomparable Opryland Hotel, boasts 1,406 rooms on 63 acres and is adjacent (and very visible) to I-4, just three minutes from Walt Disney World. At 2.1 million square feet, it is one of the biggest resorts and convention facilities in all of Florida.
