Guest Review of the Nickelodeon Hotel by Family from Chicago

About.com Rating 1

From a guest reviewer

Family from Chicago, visited: July 2005

Had stayed here twice before this year under the Holiday Inn name and thought old hotel was a MUCH better value. Before, the rooms were half the cost and breakfast buffet was included for whole family. First day breakfast cost us $30 with "free" kids and was the same buffet as past years just in a different room. Character breakfast was WAY overpriced as well and would not recommend at all.

My biggest complaint was with the hotel's handling for customer safety. First night there, the fire alarm went off at 10:45 pm due to an ignorant guest hanging their clothes hangers on the sprinkler head causing it to rip off the wall causing lots of water in their room. After going down several flights of stairs with several groggy kids, we were told after 20 minutes it was safe to return after watching water cascading off the balcony from the room with the problem.

A few minutes later half the lights in our room went off, then all power lost at 11:30. Front desk told us to go back down to the parking lot and wait for fire dept. to tell us all was OK. Waking up the kids a second time and going down the stairs again to the parking lot, we were immediately told the power was right back on and to go back to our room. 20 minutes later the neighbor in the next room asked us if we too were getting water now leaking into the room and he was changing rooms.

Realizing water and electricity is a bad mix, we called the front desk, they said they were aware of continuing problems and asked me to come down to the front desk to get another room at 1 am. Upon talking to the front desk clerk, he first told me to take the family back out into the parking lot and wait for the fire department to clear us.

I refused and asked for another room and after he consulted someone in the back room, the clerk then told me everything was OK and to just go back to sleep, and the hotel was 100% full anyway. I asked how the condition could change in the course of 5 minutes. After getting the same "the hotel is full" message from the manager, I insisted on another room either there or somewhere else due to the safety concerns.
After several more complaints, and telling them my daughter and wife were terrified and could not go to sleep, I was given another room. There was no comp of the room for the night, no refund of the upgrade I paid for the main pool view room or even price difference for the smaller room we were given.

Bottom line is I would not stay there ever again due to the greatly increased cost and the extremely poor customer service and handling of our safety concerns.
