What's Special About Hotel Tadoussac:

The Hotel Tadoussac, established in 1864, is set in the historic north shore village of Tadoussac where the St. Laurence and Saquenay rivers meet along Quebec's whale route. The three-story hotel, featuring a red roof, dormer windows and cupola, is so picturesque that it was used as the signature backdrop for the movie "The Hotel New Hampshire."

Dining at Hotel Tadoussac:

Restaurants include:
  • Part of the joy of having breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Coverdale Dining Room is studying the charming nature mural gracing its four walls.
  • For a more casual dining atmosphere, the hotel offers Beaupre Restaurant & Terrace.
  • Fine dining with up to seven course dinners is featured at the cozy Le William Restaurant. The award-winning restaurant's wine and food pairing menu is superb.

Activities and Amenities at Hotel Tadoussac:

  • This hotel is really a resort. There's miniature golf, tabletop shuffleboard, ping-pong and arcade games, plus a large, heated pool. The hotel's challenging golf course is located two minutes away.
  • Shoppers will be impressed by the hotel's well-stocked clothing boutique and gift shop.
  • Supervised child-care and spa treatments are available.

Good to Know About Hotel Tadoussac:

  • The hotel's dramatic exterior and majestic views of the river are its strongest points. The decor in Hotel Tadoussac's guest rooms is a bit past its prime and in-room amenities are limited, but that's typical of seasonal grand hotels along Quebec's whale route.
  • Wireless, high-speed Internet is available in the lobby.
  • Staff members are multilingual.

The great hall at the Hotel Tadoussac:

Upon entering the Hotel Tadoussac, you can't help but be struck by the spacious lobby and great hall. The hall is filled with 19th century furniture and an impressive collection of historic drawings and photographs. William Hugh Coverdale, president of Canadian Steamship Lines, assembled the museum-quality collection.

It's All About the Whales:

It's almost impossible not to see whales while staying at the Hotel Tadoussac. Many visitors take whale-watching tours via one of the popular, large tour boats. But I opted for donning a survival suit for a more intimate whale watching adventure aboard a Zodiac. Beluga pod sightings are a daily occurrence on the short Route 138 ferry ride to and from Tadoussac. Pretty much everyone gets out of their vehicles to see the ghostly white creatures.
