The Bottom Line:
Hotel Solamar, a Kimton boutique hotel, has a hip take on the Southern California beach theme. Take a photo tour of the Hotel Solamar.
What's Special About Hotel Solamar:
It's several blocks to the beach, but the stylish décor of the Hotel Solamar brings the ocean inside, in spirit at least. Starfish shadowboxes and colorful tiles in varying shades of blue adorn the spa-like bathrooms, while animal print robes remind you that you haven't left the city. In the lobby, an evening cocktail hour and erasable drawing pads encourage whimsically artistic mingling.
Guest Rooms and Rates:
235 guest rooms and suites, from $319. Guest rooms are decorated in an eclectic mix of mocha and sand, with sea-blue bathrooms. Complimentary Wi-Fi and wired high-speed access throughout the hotel and guest rooms. Room include coffee makers, robes, refrigerators, ergonomic mesh swivel desk chairs, flat-screen TVs with DVD/CD players, an iron and ironing board.

Dining at Hotel Solamar:
Don't miss Jsix, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Coastal Cuisine from Executive Chef Christian Graves is served in a stylish but warm atmosphere, with whimsical touches like a wall of Fez lamps. I couldn't get enough of the divine housemade olive tapenade. Our other favorites were the lean and large Peppered Rib Eye, the Organic Chicken (roasted on a brick, so all the juices were sealed in), and the Butter Lettuce "Cobb" with avocado, blue cheese and bacon.
Insider Tips:
- Valet parking is $24 per night
- The rooftop pool, with its Jbar lounge, is a popular meeting spot.
- If you're feeling social, ask for a room opening onto the rooftop pool deck.
Pet-Friendly Hotel:
Like all Kimpton Hotels, the Hotel Solamar is pet friendly. Pets receive special amenities like gourmet doggie biscuits, turndown service, and bottled water. Doggie daycare and dogwalking services are also available.
Up All Night:
Hotel Solamar has a complimentary 24-hour fitness center and 24-hour room service, with interesting selections like Clay Pot Shrimp with olive oil, paprika and hot peppers, Tempura Onion Rings with wasabi mayo, and Kobe Beef Flatiron wth cilantro glaze and garlic spinach.
