What's Special About The Cliff:
Utah is known for light, fluffy powder. Even here, Snowbird stands out, with an average of 500 inches of annual snowfall. Snowbird's flagship resort, The Cliff, is a steel-and-concrete bunker of a resort, built to withstand avalanches. Still, it seems every space has a huge window with a snow-draped view. Everything you need - when you're not actually skiing - is within one building. So you can ditch the snow pants, heavy jacket and gloves and head to the restaurants, shopping and the spa.
Guest Rooms and Rates:
Winter rates start at $99 per person, per night, including lift tickets. Canyon and Mountain View rooms have two queen-sized beds, and have coffee makers, mini refrigerators and humidifiers. Spa Level rooms have two queens or one king bed and include complimentary access to the Cliff Spa. Deluxe rooms are larger, with a king bed and a sleeper sofa. One- and two-bedroom suites are also available.
Restaurants at The Cliff:
Atop The Cliff, Aerie serves a breakfast buffet. IN the evenings, it is the fine dining option; adjacent is a lounge and sushi bar. The Atrium has a daily lunch buffet and espresso bar. El Chanate has Mexican food and margaritas. Restaurants at the nearby Snowbird Center include The Forklift for casual breakfast and lunch, and The Steak Pit for dinner.
Skiing at The Cliff:
The aerial tram was the main way up the mountain until the Peruvian Express opened in late 2006. This high-speed quad lift takes skiers up to either Peruvian Gulch, or through North America's only ski resort tunnel, complete with a people mover, to intermediate trails. Trails at Snowbird are 35 percent expert, with the rest evenly split between beginner and intermediate.
Other Activities at The Cliff:
Plenty of winter activities to choose from including snowshoeing, snowmobiling, fly fishing, ice skating and backcountry seminars. Summer fun includes the zip rider, the alpine slide, a bungee trampoline, a mechanical bull, mountain biking and hiking.
Spa at The Cliff:
The Cliff's Spa takes up the top two floors, and includes an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. Half- and full-day packages can be combined with lift tickets, or you can book treatments a la carte. The spa also offers daily yoga classes and meditation sessions.
Family-Friendly Features at The Cliff:
Little guys and girls have their own lift, Chickadee, where they practice or take lessons. Kids under 6 years old use the lifts free of charge, and kids up to twelve years old pay only $10 per day. The SMILE program (Snowbird Mountain School Integrated Learning Experience) combines a licensed day care with ski lessons for kids ages 3 to 15, starting at $125 per day. Supervised group activities are also planned for the evenings. A nursery cares for infants from three months old.
Meeting Space at The Cliff:
50,000 square feet of meeting space can accommodate groups of up to 900. (800) 882-4766 or email groupsales@snowbird.com
