We drove from Sundance Resort to Snowbird, where we were checking in to The Cliff. (It's amazing how close all of the ski resorts are to one another; you can get to about a dozen within an hour's drive.)

Among skiers, Utah is known for its light, dry, powdery snowfall. Even here, Snowbird stands out, with an average of 500 inches of snowfall a year, and a lengthy 200 days in its season. So I wasn't too surprised when we arrived in the middle of a snowstorm. (Snowbird even has a snowcam so you can check each day's new snow.)

The Cliff is the flagship resort in Snowbird. A steel-and-concrete bunker of a resort, it was built to withstand avalanches. Still, it seems every space has a huge window with a snow-draped view.
