The Grove Park Inn hosts the annual National Gingerbread House Competition, possibly the best-smelling competition around. Pictured is the grand prize winner from 2009, a gingerbread house created by Jodie Stowe of Polkville, North Carolina. All of the contest entrants are on display at Grove Park Inn through January 3, 2010. Executive pastry chef Aaron Morgan, the co-author of Making Great Gingerbread Houses, offers 10 tips for making great gingerbread houses of your own.
Fun Fact:: The Gingerbread Mobile made its first appearance at the 2009 competition. It's a 1996 Lincoln Town Car decorated with candy canes, gum drops and gingerbread cookies. One of the phrases on it reads, "You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread car!"
